History of the Nott Company

WSNOTT.jpg (18855 bytes)Nott Company was founded by William S. Nott in 1879.  The company started business supplying leather drive belts made from animal hides for the milling and lumber industries using water power from St. Anthony's falls on the Mississippi River near what is now downtown Minneapolis.  Other products evolved, from luggage, horse harnesses, leather dice cups, hand-drawn fire engines and steam pumps to motorized fire engines during the early 1900's.

About 1940, Nott Company shifted its business focus to include the distribution of industrial rubber products, power transmission products, material handling equipment and fire equipment.  Today's Industrial Division continues to fabricate and distribute belting along with other power transmission products.  Remnants of the old fire equipment distribution business can still be found in offices throughout the company -- aged copper fire extinguishers transformed into lamps!

Another division was established in 1965, the Fluid Power Division.  This growing business is a custom stocking distributor of components, assemblies and finished products and offers integrated power solutions to the needs of OEM and end user accounts.
